Joy Castro is the author of the memoirs The Truth Book (2005; Univ. of Nebraska, 2012) and Island of Bones (Univ. of Nebraska, 2012), the post-Katrina thrillers Hell or High Water (St. Martin’s, 2012) and Nearer Home (St. Martin's, 2013), and the short story collection How Winter Began (Univ. of Nebraska, forthcoming 2015). Winner of the Nebraska Book Award and an International Latino Book Award, a finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award, and editor of Family Trouble: Memoirists on the Hazards and Rewards of Revealing Family (Univ. of Nebraska, 2013), she teaches creative writing, literature, and Latino studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
